Throughout our graduate recruitment cycle we are continuously improving the level of engagement and outreach to diverse candidates. In 2023, we continued to invest in initiatives and partnerships designed to provide greater access to our opportunities.
We strengthened and expanded our diversity focused work experience and mentoring programs globally such as MONA (Mentoring, Orientation, Network, Advance) in Germany and GROW (Graduate Outreach for Women) in the UK.
Our engagement with Rise (UK) and Develop (US) continued, focusing on Black students as well as the ‘10K Black Heritage’ intern programme.
Moreover, we haver further extended our outreach to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the US and held our first in-person HBCU leadership summit in New York. Additionally, we hosted the ‘Forté Women in Business’ conference at Deutsche Bank for 150 college women interested in learning about banking careers.
Our application masterclass workshops, which provide coaching and support through our selection process, have been positively received and we continue to run the ‘Unofficial Guide to Banking’ - designed to introduce new and diverse audiences to banking careers.
We also maintained our focus on social mobility with Advance (UK) and dbAchieve (US).
Career Start: Apprentices
At Deutsche Bank, we offer a variety of Apprenticeships and Dual Study programs for the brands of Deutsche Bank and Postbank. Diverse junior talent can choose from 10 Apprenticeship and 6 Dual Study professions.
In 2023, we hired 547 apprentices for our 16 Apprenticeship and Dual Study professions of Deutsche Bank and Postbank (2022: 485). In 2023, 322 of the apprenticeship and dual study graduates decided to start their career with us (2022: 353). For many consecutive years and once more in 2023, we have been recognised as one of the best companies offering dual vocational training and dual studies in Germany.
The apprenticeships of both brands are aligned to the following three principles:
- Theory: Expertise and theoretical content by vocational schools and renowned partner universities is deepened by structured training of various educational partners.
- Practice: During the practical phase of gaining a broad overview of all relevant topics, we support the learning process with subject-specific training, virtual training modules, and workshops. This ensures a comprehensive transfer of knowledge from theory to practice.
- Responsibility: Personal responsibility and motivation are essential parts of our concept. Apprentices and dual students are encouraged to work independently through vocational training content and to reflect their own behaviour critically and constructively. Early career staff members are given the opportunity to think outside the box in professional or social projects, in workshops or regional exchanges.

Technology, Data & Innovation:
Our Technology, Data & Innovation (TDI) function requires a balance of technical expertise, client-focus and collaboration across global teams. In 2023 we continued to build our in-house capabilities, strengthened our expertise, automated processes, reduced complexity, and modernized our IT infrastructure through long-term investments and the use of cloud computing.
In particular, we are building highly skilled teams in Technology hubs across the world in key global centres such as Berlin and Cary. We are building key capabilities in partnership with major technology companies, for example cloud skills in collaboration with Google Cloud.
We also continue to support the careers of our Women in Technology via dedicated training initiatives, networking platforms and showcasing of employees that are making a difference in driving greater gender balance.
Anti-Financial Crime:
In 2023 we continued to build our teams in crucial control functions – protecting the bank and ensuring that our operations are compliant with all necessary regulations and requirements.
Our Anti-Financial Crime function is focussed on continual self-improvement, investing and expanding in order to meet future challenges. Accordingly, we have built further capabilities in Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions & Embargoes, Anti-Fraud, Bribery & Corruption, Investigations & Intelligence, Monitoring & Screening, and Risk Assessment.
Compliance:
Compliance sits at the heart of our non-financial risk control framework - at the forefront of helping to protect the bank and its clients from Conduct and Regulatory risk. Empowered with cutting edge technologies and strategically aligned to Deutsche Bank group objectives, the function has been growing across Advisory, Surveillance, Risk Assessment, Training, Conduct, E-communications, Voice and Trade Surveillance.
