1. Why is it important to take part in a first-year programme?

I wasn’t sure what kind of job I wanted as a freshman at university. A first-year programme allows you to understand more about a particular industry and company before making career decisions and opening you up to new possibilities in life.

2. What brought you to Deutsche Bank?

It was actually GROW. It was the first career event in banking I was invited to and participated in. But what made me join Deutsche Bank was the culture and the people.

3. What was the most useful aspect of GROW for you?

Developing networks – getting to know people like you, so you know what to improve on. Learning from your peers and business representatives.

4. What surprised you about GROW?

It was engaging and fun to meet people from different places (I joined the virtual session during Covid). GROW offers you skills that are applicable and useful.

5. What is your career journey at Deutsche Bank so far?

2021 Hong Kong GROW participant – 2022 Fixed Income and Currencies (FIC) internship – 2023 Fixed Income and Currencies (FIC) graduate programme.

careers-insights-apac-grow-deepika-v11. Why is it important to take part in a first-year programme?

As an undergraduate at the start of your career journey, I feel like it’s important to understand what companies truly do and what they’re looking for in potential hires. Most undergraduates, including myself, don’t truly have a good idea of each division’s function in a bank, or where your strengths and skills would shine. First year programmes present the chance to network with and learn from people who have been in the bank for many years and get the answers to any burning questions you have, which is an invaluable opportunity you otherwise wouldn’t get outside of careers fairs.

2. What brought you to Deutsche Bank?

I joined GROW with the intention of meeting other undergraduates who were in the same stage of their career journey as I was, and to understand the different functions in a bank. The commitment to nurturing undergraduates and helping them grow inspired me to apply for the summer internship the following year. When I joined the bank as an intern, I learned a lot, not just about technical but also about how I could grow in the workplace. Beyond guidance from my team, I learned from people across the whole floor who were willing to take time out of their day to teach and support the interns. This was what attracted me to come back to Deutsche Bank as a Graduate!

3. What was the most useful aspect of GROW for you?

I found the mentorship to be extremely useful. Following the two-day GROW programme, the participants were matched with mentors, who were people from across the bank. My mentor took the time to sit down with me to help me better understand what I wanted from my career. Her guidance was invaluable in helping me understand my own strengths and weaknesses, and how I could better communicate all of this in interviews. I’ve learnt a lot from her!

4. What surprised you about GROW?

I went into GROW expecting to just participate in a two-day workshop, but it was so much more than that. I was surprised how much Deutsche Bank was willing to invest in developing us through the continuity of the mentorship.

5. What is your career journey at Deutsche Bank so far?
