Rekha bridges the gap between management and technology
Rekha’s home country is India; she has now lived in Germany for five years. After her Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management, Rekha studied Management and Engineering in Production Systems at RWTH Aachen University. From the beginning, she was interested in modern technology. “Technology is an increasingly important part of our lives, and I think it’s important that we stay on top of these developments. Keeping up with technology means keeping up with the future,” she says.
Variety. Feels like Deutsche Bank.
Rekha’s career plans did not originally focus on banking. What she did know was that she wanted to work internationally, preferably at the interface between technology and management. During the DB TechDays, a tech event for students, she made her first contact with Deutsche Bank and also became aware of our graduate programmes. “I really wanted to get to know the different teams and areas of work before starting my career, to find out what suited me best,” says Rekha, explaining her decision to join the Technology, Data & Innovation graduate programme. With its various rotations, it was the perfect fit for her.
Mastering the pandemic with teamwork and mentoring
Despite joining in the middle of the pandemic, Rekha’s start went smoothly. Her team quickly bonded with each other even though they could only collaborate on their projects virtually. “Everyone here is open and very helpful, and the collaboration is based on mutual respect.”, Rekha also worked with a mentor from the management suite who supported her with advice and action. But a very special highlight was the end of the probationary period: “We celebrated it with other graduates on the banks of the Main.”
Rekha has now found her ideal job in Trade Finance & Lending in the Corporate Bank – a team she already got to know during the graduate programme. Here, everything is about the harmonisation of systems and processes in connection with the Postbank integration. Working closely with stakeholders is just as much a part of her daily work as analysing technological aspects in the business that may be relevant for programme management. “It’s about technology, it’s about management and it’s about finance. It’s the perfect mix for me!” The combination of working both in the office and at home for a few days per week is also perfect for Rekha, as she enjoys having her teammates around her.
Networking is key – and Rekha can help
During her trainee programme, Rekha got involved with the newly launched CB TechTalk project, a digital forum where employees of the corporate bank in Germany present their projects, exchange ideas and inspire each other. Rekha is responsible for marketing and communication and ensures that the platform becomes even wider known in the business. And she’s always there if any of the participants need her advice or support.
But work isn’t everything for Rekha: she always finds time to travel and for her new passion, Bollywood dance. “I recently started doing it and am fascinated by the mix of classical and western elements.” And to pass on her enthusiasm for working at Deutsche Bank, Rekha regularly attends campus events at RWTH Aachen University as a Deutsche Bank ambassador or visits career fairs. “The bank’s tech sector is booming, there’s so much happening here. I’m proud that I can play a part in inspiring talented people from RWTH Aachen to join the bank.”
