Monica feels she’s able to make a difference for people through her work.

Job advancement, career development and personal growth are important to all of us. That’s why we make it a priority to give all our employees the opportunity to try different roles, grow their skills and take on new responsibilities.

Monica has experienced this first hand. As a former dbAchieve intern and now graduate analyst, she has rotated through different areas of the business, helping her realise where her passions lie and inspiring her career plans.

Exploring the bank

During her time on the graduate programme, Monica worked in several teams across the Corporate Bank learning about the business along the way. She found her feet in the Structured Trade and Export Finance team, where her day-to-day work feeds her interest in the societal impact of international finance.

“I was drawn to this team because of the international element. I am exposed to events happening around the world and their impact on our clients, whether that be financing international trade relationships for our corporate clients or infrastructure development projects with our sovereign clients. All of this impacts real people by providing them with an essential benefit – my work feels tangible.”

Seizing every opportunity

In every rotation, Monica has been trusted to make a real contribution to her team’s work and given the support to develop, whether it’s through informal mentoring or organised initiatives.

“My managers care about my success and where I see myself being. They had high expectations and gave me the same level of work as everybody else on my team even during my internships. It was a great chance to dive straight in and learn as much as possible while expanding my skillset.”

Pursuing passions

With ongoing support and exposure to different work and responsibilities, Monica has been able to realise and pursue her passion: to work on global finance projects that make a positive societal impact.

“International exposure, such as collaborating with colleagues around the globe or learning about new markets, is great for building a diverse mind-set, which then has a positive impact on your clients and society. When you see an opportunity that interests you, it just comes down to demonstrating your work ethic and raising your hand for the right ones when they arise.”

She’s just one of the many employees who benefits from our approach to career development – one that helps you learn, broaden your horizons and perfect your skills.
