- Why is it important to take part in a first-year programme?
It is not easy to figure out what people do on a day-to-day basis at a bank until you speak to them. dbAcademy provides students with the opportunity to speak to professionals at the bank, to learn more about the industry as a whole and Deutsche Bank in particular. This will give students a better idea of their career goals and the division they would most enjoy working with. - What brought you to Deutsche Bank?
Given my academic interest in macroeconomics, I wanted to join a bank that specialized in fixed income and currencies. I was fortunate to take part in dbAcademy and the Summer Internship Programme, where I found people at Deutsche Bank very approachable and willing to teach me. I learnt a lot every day from both the work and my mentors, which made me believe the bank would be a great place to start my career. - What’s been the most useful aspect of dbAcademcy for you?
I found the ‘Run-the-bank’ simulation the most useful for me as previously I only had experience in the markets side of the business and the simulation introduced me to various divisions of the bank. I learnt more about how the bank operates, but more importantly, about how the various divisions came together to make Deutsche Bank a Global Hausbank with comprehensive offerings for clients. - What surprised you about dbAcademy?
I was surprised by how much interaction we had with professionals at the bank through dbAcademy. I spoke to many representatives from various teams on the trading floor to learn more about their work. These conversations gave me a better idea of how to craft my application as I learned more about the desks that aligned with my interests and strengths.

Having resided in Frankfurt, Deutsche Bank has always held a prominent position in my perception as a leading German bank. However, my perspective on Deutsche Bank changed after attending dbAcademy, where my understanding of the institution expanded beyond its domestic prominence as I was introduced to Deutsche Bank’s multifaceted nature, discovering that it not only stands as a leading German bank with European roots, but also boasts a robust global network encompassing diverse business lines such as O&A, FIC, CB, IPB, DWS, and more.
During the networking sessions at the academy, I had the opportunity to engage with colleagues from different divisions and gain insights into their experiences working at Deutsche Bank. Their enthusiasm and personal growth from the learning curve and extensive training provided by Deutsche Bank deeply attracted me. Moreover, Deutsche Bank’s collaborative and inclusive culture gave me a deep impression, drawing me further towards the institution. Additionally, we had the opportunity to seek guidance and suggestions from senior professionals, providing invaluable direction to first and second-year students as they navigate their respective career paths. - What surprised you about dbAcademy?
