Bhamini is creating smarter solutions for career progression

Fulfilling careers need solid foundations. For women and talent from under-represented groups, there can be additional barriers to success. Fortunately, at Deutsche Bank, Bhamini found the right support, in a working environment that “provides a safe space for people to address problems by being open and transparent about them.”

From day one, Bhamini felt she was championed by colleagues willing to dedicate time to support her: “When there are role models and people to give you a framework of how to approach something, it really builds your confidence,” she says.

“I’m not your typical management consultant.”

After several years working in technology in India, Bhamini moved to Frankfurt, where she started out as a system engineer and then a software consultant. Today she is a core member of business agile transformation in Corporate Bank.

Across banking, Bhamini has noticed changes during her career, especially regarding increased opportunities for women in technology. Nurturing talent while building equity is something she believes is made a priority at the bank: “We are building foundations because the leadership listens and values people.” Ways that the bank supports the development and recognition of talent is through continuous learning, making opportunities for progression highly visible on the internal careers portal and encouraging an open dialogue.

Everyone benefits from a greater gender balance and diversity

Elevating talent from under-represented groups is a key component to driving success. “It is important our leadership reflects our diversified customer base. The more diverse a group is, the better it grows, and the more ideas are explored,” says Bhamini.

“When you work together and understand perspectives, you really cross a bridge,” she says. “You are never alone in getting something done.” As she has advanced in her career, Bhamini has gained a deeper understanding of how to leverage the power of collaboration to support other people’s progress.

Visibility for women in senior management and technology positions is increasing in Deutsche Bank – whether via sponsorship, succession management or building pathways to the top of the business. It’s a collective effort – one that, as Bhamini says, requires commitment, strategy, and transparency.

“We have focused mentoring programmes,” Bhamini says. “This gives women the opportunities to build a solid network”. It was this network of mentors that gave Bhamini the encouragement she needed to advance her career and pursue a transformation path within the bank. “Seeing diversity in leadership roles is vital to ensuring equal opportunities. It shows that the bank values creativity, individual expression, and individual contribution”.

When you’re given space to grow, we all grow

“There are a lot of cheerleaders – people who want to see you grow,” Bhamini says. Continuous learning is just one of several approaches to be more inclusive and help diversify the talent pool.

We can all learn by exchanging viewpoints across technology, operations, and business. By harnessing our collective strength, the bank’s technology transformation, culture of openness and respect is creating opportunities for our people to go further, embracing new and better ways of doing things.

Bhamini believes that “the future of Deutsche Bank looks bright” and with good reason, as a leading agile organisation, providing opportunities to build truly transformative & digital products. There’s a vision and momentum to help all our people succeed.
